"Sci-fi, horror, to me it's the great escape!" So says no-budget filmmaker Andy Kumpon. Born on October 1972, in Spokane, Wa, Kumpon has always been interested in sci-fi, horror and fantasy. He is a big fan of the old Godzilla movies, creature features and of course "Star Wars." Kumpon also points to the unique directing style of John Carpenter as a major influence in his own work. With no real formal training, Kumpon started his film career with fellow sci-fi enthusiast and filmmaker Wayne Spitzer. They developed an idea of Spitzer's called "Dead of Night," a no-budget sci-fi series in which the duo would buy air-time on late-night infomercial channels. They achieved only marginal success with the series, but the pair managed to gain valuable hands on experience, as well as a local cult following. Kumpon is also the associate producer/actor/camera-man/music composer for Wayne Spitzer's "Shadows in the Garden", another short horror piece that tells a story through the monsters perspective. "I only hope we can be discovered by the likes of the great Roger Corman." Kumpon said. "Maybe someday I will do films with a more serious subject matter, but monsters and aliens, if done right, can be just as serious and interesting as any other genre out there today. As well as being a whole lot more fun."
