  This here is my free will review of what sounding like a pretty cool idea for an action movie: a hero who can kill himself and instantly respawn, as long as it is nescessary to get the job done. Very cool. Seriously, this is now my all time favorite triggerstreet script, and the fact that Joel Silver passed on this is sickening. I mean this script is almost terrifyingly... This here is my free will review of what sounding like a pretty cool idea for an action movie:

  Seriously, this is now my all time favorite triggerstreet script, and the fact that Joel Silver passed on this is sickening. I mean this script is almost terrifyingly original! Plus, "I can live with that" and "Dying's easy once you get the hang of it" are some freakin' awesome one-liners. We're are talking classic quotes here.
  
  One problem (and only one)... the ending seems kind of abrupt, I think you're missing a page at the end of this version of the script.
  
  I give this an excellent on all accounts, and my most sincere "Recommend!"

  A cool concept for a very hot script. One of few that I have read from beginning to end in one sitting. This is BLOCKBUSTER material and for the most part is close to as good as they come.A few minor comments....Karma is to philisophical...I am imagining a priest/social worker type character here, where he should be more magical...and not so scientific. Less preaching chatter and more mystery. >>>Also in the beggining (while in Jakes room), have Jake pick up an alarm clock or telephone as he springs awake from bed in a self defense weapon. He was suddenly woken up and instead of being easy to talk to, he should be shocked. Make it more mysterious.The drunk mourner is overdone in films. I would have like to see Jake lying in bed with clothes on, his face unshaven, his head a mess, his house looking like he had a zoo run through it. He should be more confused and angry then just heading to the bar.Have the Chief come over to bring some groceries, maybe feed goldfish.The morque scene was too quick. Instead of having Jake at the morque, maybe have him in the back of an ambulance or lying in a room in the hospital, covered up and ready to be BROUGHT to the morque, but registered to be out of commision. read

  Normally I don't like this kind of movie but my roommate recommended this script. The first act was the best part of this script and was very exhilirating. The movie starts out like BACKDRAFT but then turns into THE CROW. The juxtoposition of genre was very well done. Good job guys. I'm sure you'll be working in Hollywood very soon.

  Nine Lives transcends one of the main rules in its genre that says "The hero is not supposed to die". And it does so in a great manner - I was never bored by the fact that I was aware that the main character would not die. The screenplay does not make it seem like "his task is too easy". In my opinion, Nine Lives is ready to be shopped around. However, a few changes would not... Nine Lives transcends one of the main rules in its genre that says "The hero is not supposed to die". In my opinion, Nine Lives is ready to be shopped around. However, a few changes would not hurt it. Here they are. CONS:*I liked your humorous writing style, but sometimes it goes a bit too far. It's impossible for the movie director to film "eyes that shine with intelligence".*About the last act - watch out for cliches. I saw everything coming (Hero gets close to killing vilain. Something happens. Villain almost kills hero. Hero finally wins).*You could drop the "water bomb" idea. Stick to something more conventional. Some people are nitpicky. Water-based explosives can spoil part of the fun for them.*Most of Karma´s lines sound a bit cheesy. Phrases like "the universe is always searching for balance" make him look like a New Age guru.PROS: *The pacing is wonderful.*Great sense of humour.As I already mentioned, the screenplay is ready to hit Hollywood. Well done, keep up the good work!PS - Typo on page 83, "two live left". read

  READ THIS ONE! I was rooting for Jack T. from page one. Yeah, it wasn't fun losing Annie. You made me like her a lot, too. Your structure is solid. Your storytelling is compelling. This is a movie I'd like to see made. For an action picture it had a lot of heart. Good use of Karma. Nice to see Jack wrestle with Karma and grow through the entire script.   This is a tough one to review. First off, the concept was unique and compelling for the action genre. The story needs to lean a bit more towards the believable. Secondly, the characters were well drawn, especially Jake. My problems began with the initial fire, while exciting, it took nearly 20 pages and we still don't know what's going on. Also, I became terribly distracted by the numerous format problems. Use of CAPS, underlines, etc. Further, the action sequences contained far too much extraneous verbage. Cut it down to the meat and potatoes and get out. The dialogue was passable, but just barely. It was filled with too much cliche and on the nose instances. Do I think this story shows potential? Absolutely. In its' present form? Absolutely not. Strong consider for concept and pure excitement. read

  The hospital fire sequence that sets this story in motion was nothing short of spectacular. It perfectly defined Jake's character while keeping me on the edge of my seat. Anyone who wants to write action should read it. More impressive was how you were able to escalate the suspense from such a high voltage opening. Campos was a great and believable character. Vinson was an appropriately despicable antagonist. I was concerned that the pacing and energy might flag as Jake worked his way through his nine lives, but it never did. I took the ending to mean that Jake had earned thousands of more lives, but that beat could be made a little clearer. You might want to save the line "Dying is easy once you get used to it." for later because it's such a great action hero moment. But any criticism I have only amounts to quibbles, so I'll just say great job. read

  Need to get to the premise of the movie sooner. He has nine lives…. So we should know this towards the beginning. Also… why would the FBI or CIA or ATF or whoever Campos is… why would they let this fireman hang around and solve the case with them? The most important concept of this story is “A life for a life. Those are the rules. The universe is always searching... Need to get to the premise of the movie sooner. He has nine lives…. So we should know this towards the beginning. Also… why would the FBI or CIA or ATF or whoever Campos is… why would they let this fireman hang around and solve the case with them? The most important concept of this story is “A life for a life. Those are the rules. The universe is always searching for balance. You saved those eight people aboard the elevator during the fire. You’ve been granted eight lives in return. That makes nine if you include your own.” I would try to get this closer to the beginning of the story. I’m almost on page 40 and this stuff should be on page 15 or 20. Also Karma tells him he’s been dead for 30 minutes. It only took 30 minutes to get him down to the morgue? This was the favorite part “KA-FUCKING-BOOOOOOOOM!” Nice. I also thought the story was too sentimental. There are some formatting errors with the underlines. A lot of the action lines seemed fat. Some of the dialogue seemed cliché. The concept is cool but overall I lost interest in the story because I knew what was going to happen. I think you should add some other kind of twist to the plot… otherwise we as viewers/readers see everything coming. read

  The action sequences were great, some very innovative. Specifically the explosion and bucket wreck in Act I was quite visual to me. Not to mention expensive. The script was a fast pace Bronsoneque revenge story, with a twist, a self sacrificing hero who has nine lives. And boy does he use them. The camersa directions, underlined notes to the reader, "we sees..." really took... The action sequences were great, some very innovative. Specifically the explosion and bucket wreck in Act I was quite visual to me. Not to mention expensive. The camersa directions, underlined notes to the reader, "we sees..." really took me out of the script. I had to be forced to enjoy the story in spite of that style of writing. I don't know whether it is "correct" to do that or not. I just know it took me out of the script everytime it occured. Most of the dialogue was okay, some on the nose and some very expository. To the point of being red flags. But Act III was where you just kept on giving. Well done screenplay. Great future ahead of you. read

  A fast paced, high stakes read! Action-Adventure is a tough genre, b/c what hasn't been done? But, this one is unique. Should be easy to pitch. My comments are picky: If the firefighters were on their way to a fire, would they take time to d/o Jake at home? I hope not! Maybe he's finishing a poker game or watching a fight on TV w/ the guys and they get an alarm. He's off... A fast paced, high stakes read! She's a doctor, she's not going to be mad about him being late b/c of work. P. 3 Never heard of a doctor waking a patient and taking them water (nurses only). Know you're trying to create a moment w/ the faucet/water thing. Pp. 57-58 I'd skip the homless man thing. Didn't get the "I don't pay taxes..." I know he thinks Jake is talking to himself. Watch for on-the-nose dialog (e.g. p. 100 Campos: "Not Good."; pg. 106 Vince: "How many times do I have to...") Could trim up by omitting fight choreography - leave this to stunt people/director. End slugs in "Night"/"Day" only; Omit camera directions; Not familiar with underlining anything except for proper names (film/song/book titles); Capitalize names and sounds only. Check out scripts for formatting. A good example: "Silence of the Lambs." read
