HOW IT RATES
It's 2007, and amidst a world of climate chaos, a third US political party backed by Native American casino money emerges. Their choice for the 2008 presidential race is JAMES O'LEARY, brother of CHRIS, the protagonist. Chris O'Leary is a talented marine engineer who is framed by a client that turns out to be a global criminal syndicate. His quest is to battle back to save himself, his family, his brother's campaign hopes, and ultimately the collective hopes of a whole nation confronted by environmental disaster and a clueless, status-quo political structure. My favorite character is Vinnie - a homeless artist who is "cursed with a global conscience" as one reviewer aptly put it. Classic 3 act structure & American cinematic formula. Very tight - very quick, at about 100 pages. I paired down over 200 pages of material with which I will someday write the novel. The detailed enviro stuff was too complex to get on the screen effectively.
