  Just finished reading your script today and saw that you had a short up so I thought I'd check it out. Over-all I thought it was cute and I enjoyed it. The actors were enjoyable enough. The flashback of the bad ex's was cute, despite being a bit of a cliche. What I liked best was it being revealed that he was the one that cried for months. I think you could have played...   Over-all I thought it was cute and I enjoyed it. The actors were enjoyable enough. The flashback of the bad ex's was cute, despite being a bit of a cliche. What I liked best was it being revealed that he was the one that cried for months. I think you could have played more with the idea that he was an unreliable narrator.
  
  That and I think the restaurant scene went on a bit too long, should be tightened up as it started to feel repetitive. Strong work over all though! read

  I didn't know that men had the problem of stereotype for not getting married. It was a good twist. I liked the photo effect introducing new dates. Nice shot of the man walking in front of the large art work. Some of the acting was very amateur but the writing was great. And even though it was amateur the actors were very personable. I was waiting for the punch line, the twist, the surprise ending, waiting with anticipation, and I was rewarded for my wait, pleasantly rewarded. It was even better than I had imagined. I think I just watched another top ten entry. read

  Awesome! This Film was funny with a twist really cool ending. I really enjoyed this entire film I really was amazed at the outcome. This film really had me going, great casting and screen shots. I definitely would love to see more from you! I have to admit I did feel little sorry for the character until the last scene… Giggle!!!

  Well, I can say I wasn't honestly expecting the ending. I've never been one for romance movies that I've never heard of, but this one is very well done. Both characters are manifested in such a way that almost anyone can relate to them, for me it was Paul. It was good that you used the $2,000 on the camera because it provided a great amount of detail in the close up shots... Well, I can say I wasn't honestly expecting the ending.   It was good that you used the $2,000 on the camera because it provided a great amount of detail in the close up shots that would have been lost in a movie of 10 minutes on anything less than HD. Only being at 230 pixles wasn't too bad either, the detail was excellent. Direction and cinematography were also very well done and seemed practically flawless. Excellent job. read

  I think most writers have this very project tucked up inside their minds, that personal story about first love. The one you know you'll get battered for making; where you'll be ridiculed for being a losering romantic idiot of Dawson's Creek proportions. Thing is, these are about as personal as films can be and their simplicity allows us to say all the things we need to say...   This film has a very personal tone. That's down to very well crafted direction and expertly handled voice over.
  
  This is technically flawless, emotionally rich and riveting viewing. Good job. read

  The voiceover was decent, except for the second woman - where it didn't tell us anything that we weren't seeing on screen, and thus was redundant. The acting was flat, the actors' lines a bit stilted - almost sounded like they were reading. The dialog was mediocre. Corny, unbelievable lines. During the propsal scene, I was rolling my eyes. Maybe I was supposed to be laughing...

  The dialog was mediocre. Corny, unbelievable lines. During the propsal scene, I was rolling my eyes. Maybe I was supposed to be laughing. I wasn't. I was just bored. I didn't care about this man or his reunion with the woman of his dreams. I thought he was a schmuck.
  
  I guessed she was pregnant - so while I didn't figure out the reality show angle, I wasn't surprised that she was using him.
  
  The editing was polished, however, and the visual element was the strong suit of the film.
  
  I can see some good filmmaking skills lurking in there, but this piece just didn't do anything to excite me. read

  Good story, performances. The abbreviated relationships, though played somewhat broadly for laughs, still rang true. Interaction in the restaurant started a little stiff but quickly drew me in and began to feel very honest and then to build suspense. I was anticipating something like what happened at the end and at first it felt unrealistic. She was SO cold as was the announcer... Good story, performances. Giving it more thought, it is actually entirely plausible and really powerful. An indictment of a culture in which cruelty is often celebrated and rewarded and thus perpetuates itself, and displays of true emotion are mocked. Well done. Technically, filmmaking could have been jazzed up a bit. Lighting was at times unflattering and harsh. Camera composition not terribly imaginative. Not much movement. read

  But too long to get there. The acting was pretty good, but I felt the camera work was pretty uninspired. For example, the dinner conversation - which was too long because it didn't have quality in the dialogue to maintain my interest - the camera was a bit too wide; we should have been closer, more intimate, to reflect the intimacy of the conversation. Also the camera was off to the right on the main guy; whereas, for this type of scene, we should have been face on and close up for him. For these reasons, the punchline didn't hit home as well as it could. This could have been a great short, if the set up had been better (and shorter). Great idea. read

  Good use of the freeze frame and still pictures. The pace was fairly slow, I understand there's the build up period at the restaurant to get to her celebration, but it moved really slow. Most of the framing during their conversation seemed off, she had a lot of headroom on her shots. The part where he walking to the restaurant and there's multiple shots of him moving along... Overall, I liked it fine, it just seems like it could have been 4 minutes long and been just as effective. read

  Over all a very solid piece. Clever, human story that anyone over 21 should be able to relate to on some level. I liked the way the character was introduced and developed with the small segments about his relationships. I particularly like the ending. We’ve come to expect a twist ending in short films so we expected something but this twist was pretty clever. I really liked... Over all a very solid piece. I really liked the line about what kind of person would do that at the end then the sequence that follows. It’s a nice little thought provoking, funny moment to end on.
  
  On the whole I felt that it went on a little long. I think you could really make it pop if you tightened up the scenes in the editing room. For example the girlfriend sequences at the beginning, which are very funny, could be tightened up. Maybe use fewer words in the voiceover so that you can really just show those most interesting moments. On the whole that’s my biggest reaction, I want it to cut to the funny faster. There are a few moments that linger just a little long on the post gag action as well. I’m not meaning to pick on the editing here, its cut very nicely I just think it needs to be tighter. This also goes to story. The story doesn’t arc quite as steeply as I think it could. We really need to believe he is serious about this girl he meets for lunch so that the ending has that much more impact. As it is now, I don’t feel drawn into this character and what’s going on with him as much as I would like to be so I’m not as engaged in the crush at the end. I have to admit I didn’t like him enough to feel his pain and I didn’t dislike him enough to feel he deserves it. I want to either cheer that he’s hurt or be disappointed with him at the end. One thing you might try is looking at the dinner sequence and seeing if you could spend more time looking at him and seeing his reactions to the girl. It might work that if we watch him more without cutting to her as often the audience might invest more in him. I’m not sure, just something that might be worth considering if you were to go back in and trim it up.
  
  The camera work was nicely done with good, clean movements. Sometimes the framing was slightly off and I don’t think you were really pushing yourselves in terms of finding the most amazing shots you could find. The lighting was good and the image was only muddy on the walking the dog shot. (that’s one shot I really wish you would ditch it feels out of place with the rest of the piece)
  
  All in all this is a very solid work. A simple, yet entertaining story that held my interest the majority of the time. Clean editing and good camera work. Your use of short film conventions such as voice overs, walking down the sidewalk shots, and twist endings is skillful and these things never feel stale or contrived as they often do. I really want to make it clear at this point that my long winded rambling critique about the piece is because, based on what I see here, you could really make this great. Tighten it up and take some major risks with it in the editing. This is good but with a little more work you can make it great. read
