Mechanics:
Lighting; na
Sound: poor.
The sound was different volumes at different times. The filmmaker must remember to record the sound volume so that the sound is consistant from scene to scene across edits.
The added background music also wiped out dialogue at times and was also inconsistant in volume.
Film quality; medium
The film was almost adequate to do a good job. There was blurr during movement that could have been a movement issue or a focus issue?
Did I like it? ho hum
The story was weak. The setup was nice but I expected more from the story after the accident. There was no indication of evil before the end. There should have been a consistant pattern of evil starting with the girls and climaxing with the hallway. read -
A review of Bad Eyeby danauiler on 07/15/2007I liked this short and did take into consideration that it was the filmmaker's first attempt. He has a natural knack for the suspense rhythm and timing. His framing was always clear and avoided the usual suspense cliche's that even accomplished filmmaker's cannot seem to avoid. He has a natural knack for the suspense rhythm and timing. His framing was always clear and avoided the usual suspense cliche's that even accomplished filmmaker's cannot seem to avoid. I did get a little lost once the main character returned home and confronted the "armed" friend and how all this misunderstanding was connected to his bad eye. Story-wise, this was all too much of a leap for me and though I lept and followed it was too much for me to really believe could happen. Perhaps some acknowledged predisposition for paranoia would help here--anything to help understand the main character's anxiety and then attack. I liked the turn at the end, but this did border on cliche in eary films--it also didn't quite mesh--where was this group, did they see the beat up man? how did they avoid seeing it before he opened the door? was the second return to the house real/imagined? I guess, for me the film was quite tight until after the beating in the hallway--then it lost me. High marks on initial ideas and construction, but low marks on resolution and clarity.
Editing and camera work were all fine for a first crack at it and I'd happily watch more from this filmmaker. read -
A review of Bad Eyeby **DELETED ACCOUNT** on 08/13/2006Good effort, maybe I'm just being negative as I think there's too many gun / drama shorts out there - becoming a little trite. It might be an idea to add more detailed shot composition i.e. when he was fumbling with the key in the lock you could have had an extreme close up of the key then cut to the door being opened as seen from the inside - like what Ken Loach did in ''... Music was just too apparent. read -
A review of Bad Eyeby christianblaze on 05/01/2006This was a pretty good concept for an amature film, the film lacks quite a bit of production value and quality, but this could depend on when it was produced and the type of digital camera's & software available at the time. The story was good, but a bit confusing, but I always love the accents from overseas which makes up for the lack of continuity. The gun bit was hilarious,... A review of Bad Eyeby ashrafmeer on 11/22/2005This film and filmmaker have alot of potential. The story is well structured, the premise is good as is the twist at the end. The only weaknesses are the production values and more importantly, the editing. With suspense/thriller genres, the most critical things, I think, are music, lighting and editing. The only weaknesses are the production values and more importantly, the editing. With suspense/thriller genres, the most critical things, I think, are music, lighting and editing. With those tools it is possible to create a real sense of dread and foreboding.
However, for a film shot in one day, its pretty great. I taught a film course when I was in grad school and I wish my students could have been as ambitious. read -
A review of Bad Eyeby Spodaking on 04/19/2005It's a nifty little premise and a good mix of comedy and horror. My guess is that this is your first short, and with that in mind you did a great job coming up with a pretty unique story and good work in production. Some rough spots in edit and continuity but you will learn that as you make more. I liked the performance of the lead. I really liked that I didn't see what was... Some rough spots in edit and continuity but you will learn that as you make more. I liked the performance of the lead. I really liked that I didn't see what was coming - that his eye fooled him into seeing things that weren't there, and the revelation when he uncovered his good eye that he had been led to do bad things. I thought a pretty good job was done with the score - it seemed to fit the style and mood pretty well. Keep shooting, because I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. read

A review of Bad Eyeby cybernaut on 10/17/2004This was pretty funny. I like the low key "You haven't got a gun there, have you?" Each time the line is said it just gets funnier. I like the ending where everyone mutely holds up the sign and drops it. The piano music was much too loud in comparison with the dialog. I think this short displays a unique sense of humor and the ability to amuse people. You should do (rather... This was pretty funny. I like the low key "You haven't got a gun there, have you?" A review of Bad Eyeby george23 on 07/19/2004A strange yet enjoyable short film. I found it quite hard to track at the beginning, the idea was very intresting and had so much potential and I think most of that potentcial was displaed here.Ths music worked brillantly and suited the style of the film, in fact it would have been intresting if this film had been a mock black and white oldie with the music behind, anyway the... A review of Bad Eyeby bigstart on 07/04/2004i just wanted to first say, that I thought "bad eye" was an interesting concept. Personally, I liked the idea and thought it was intriguing. Had ideas and concepts similar to that of "Momento". This premise could be expanded to a feature length film as well. The acting was acceptable. The music was fine. I enjoyed the short film and would recommend it.
