  The film is of mostly professional quality. The filming is sharp and focused. The sound level is dynamic and well done. The acting is well done. The fight scenes could use some more men without modern haircuts etc, but this is a concept film. Graphics were the highlight. Totally professional.   Graphics were the highlight. Totally professional.
  
  Now the bitchin:
  There were several scenes that were too dark.
  The woman with the missing arm was unintelligable several times and too dark.
  Beowolf's speach to his men was wasted in garble. I had a very difficult time understanding him even when replayed. Mel Gibson was passionate, accented and still was intelligable. read

  This trailer was clearly designed to build tension and excitement, and I think it does exactly that. The effects on the opening credits were really cool, and the shot was beautiful. The music really fit well with the dialog and action, and complimented the story. I think some of the acting was a little spotty, but apart from that, this trailer was well done.

  As a short film -just you, as a filmmaker trying to make it into the industry- I'm impressed. I'm impressed with the time, effort, and production value you've got here. You are ambitious, no doubt about that. As a make-believe investor -which I'm just a guy critiquing your film- I'd say no. No because they're already making this film. And they have hundreds of millions... As a short film -just you, as a filmmaker trying to make it into the industry- I'm impressed. I'm impressed with the time, effort, and production value you've got here. You are ambitious, no doubt about that. As a make-believe investor -which I'm just a guy critiquing your film- I'd say no. No because they're already making this film. And they have hundreds of millions of dollars to accomplish it, and name actors, and FX companies, etc. Your actors were all unconvincing and gave wooden performances. To pitch an epic film, it takes more than epic landscape shots. We need to see the excitement. More action. More fighting and battles. And yes, FX. In the short time you get to flex your vision for this huge scale movie, you need to blow people away. You need to at least be a little wiser about your approach for Grendel. If it's between you and a major FX house, they'll win. Which means you have to step it up and be clever about how to show him and shoot those sequences. I wish you lots of luck, but I wouldn't hold out hope that you'd get funding to make this. I'd say take that money and ambition and make a strong, ORIGINAL short film to showcase your talent so you can move onto bigger things that way. Good luck. read

  I know this is a concept movie and so i suppose it was meant to look like an extended trailer for the movie, although I couldn't help the feeling of being confused because of the lack of continuity between some of the scenes. Generally it was well shot, although there was a couple of scenes which looked quite dark and hard to make out. The music was good and the battle sequence...   It's quite interesting what can be acheived for so little money, although I'm not sure a concept film really belongs in a shorts category. I did feel that the strong American accents did detract somewhat from the film, either a more neutral broad British accent, or even English spoken with a Nordic accent would of given the film a more cinematic feel.

  The film really conveys the period and catches the passion of the situation the lead actor faces. That being said, I didn't get that the film explained the mission, the evil creature was a brief shot, I wouldn't of known that was a point at all without reading the bio of the film. It seemed a internal family or friend betrayal, not a re-emergence of a evil creature.

  this film looked great. like a real movie. so congradulations on that. titles and music were also top notch. as this was basically an extended trailer i dont feel that i have enough information to comment on the story. what i can critique is the acting.   CUT THE SYNOPSIS

  This short has excellent production quality, however as a short it seems that it does not tell a story. That is to say that the synopsis tells the story, absent that one does not know what is going on. The acting and sound are quite good and the feel of the period is good. It surely has a classical feel but the blade should CUT THE SYNOPSIS

  I am a new reviewer so my word may not count as highly as others however, I thought the intro was done brilliantly, i like the idea of making more films set around this period into feature films and i believe things like lord of the rings showed us this was possible. However such films are incredibly difficult to do as people can somehow easily be put off them, if the film... However such films are incredibly difficult to do as people can somehow easily be put off them, if the film has enough effort and money poured into it it has the chance to do well. I thought the score here was very good and i think if you were to make a longer version a tip would be to include more of the Artie style seen at the start as this allows it to stand out and makes the whole thing more stylish.
  If this film has enough put into it to make it believable it could do well.
  As for the trailer I'd say its a good effort on a low budget and some of the effects are great, although the story seemed a bit difficult to follow in the trailer.

  First of all, hats off to you for going after such an ambitious project it really shows a lot of guts and determination. However from your concept film it just seem like a rehashing of Return of the King there were some scenes that just looked like amateur versions of this. The acting was pretty ropey at points especially early on where two of your actors have really American... The acting was pretty ropey at points especially early on where two of your actors have really American accents; kind of ruins the historical accuracy. Battles looked pretty poor though I didn't expect much for the kind of money you're quoting as your budget. Also you seemed to put most of your effort and money into the one effect shot where the guy gets hit by an arrow in the eye. Perhaps should have avoided action sequences in the concept film and focused more on story. Also unfortunately for you there is a Hollywood film about Beowulf currently in production. I would put your energy and money into something a little more original. read
