  After reading that the director really just wanted to play with shooting and editing techniques, I find this video interesting. However, I find the dialogue incredibly cheesy and humorous. Some of the actions were also rather cheesy in a way. The choreography in the fighting scenes is amazing but the scene where a hole was burned into the guy looked really fake. Some of the... Some of the scenes where one person or the other disappears look fake, so they could use some work on the editing part. I think the script could use some work and some of the editing tricks need the kinks worked out, but other than that, it was decent. read

  A nice job.Good camera work and shot composition.The SFX were really good,better than some big budget flicks.The voice over worked well also.Your music composer did a fine job on the soundtrack.It looks like you spent the time and came up with a solid film.Will be looking for more from you.

  Pretty well done little film here. The effects at least had a reason and that’s a rarity in film. I also liked the idea behind the script and thought the explication pretty good. It’s almost the kind of thing D. H. Lawrence would have tried had he been around. Camera and audio were good, and the editing, with music and effects, was the same. The end for me wasn’t a complete success or what I’d hoped you might come up with, but no biggie. Good luck. read

  I see that the idea of this film is to play out the metaphorical "battle" of dating literally, but I wish there was something more dynamic to say other than "I want you"--"No, I don't want you" back and forth so much. Most of the time in the film was dedicated to battle moments that didn't move the plot forward. I liked the stark, street lighting during the fight sequences... Some of the effects looked a little "videoey" but I liked the speed-up and slow-down effects. Sound-wise, the music was good, but I would have liked to hear their voices better--especially in the classroom. read

  I just finished watching the film and thought it was shot well and had a very good concept. I do agree with the production notes from Matt Viklund, the editing could have been a "little tighter." The visual effects were also done very well and the film kept my interest.

  The movie should have been edited to four minutes to the max. But as the director said, he wanted to experiment something in this short and it seems he succeeded in that too. I always short films are wonderful tools to tell a story, learn the techniques...as long as those are achieved, I think any short is a success. Good job!

  Ok, so the Headline is lame as well, thats about as much creativity it seemed to make Dating Metaphor. Matt Viklun and Stephanie Ward face off against each other in some of the worst fight choreography that I've seen since my little brother and I would play "Bloodsport" in the backyard of my parents house when I was twelve. This film is way too long to do what it was trying... Ok, so the Headline is lame as well, thats about as much creativity it seemed to make Dating Metaphor. Matt Viklun and Stephanie Ward face off against each other in some of the worst fight choreography that I've seen since my little brother and I would play "Bloodsport" in the backyard of my parents house when I was twelve. This film is way too long to do what it was trying to do, everyone viewing this is going to get what the premise is within the first 30 seconds to a minute and it doesn't get any better from there. The voice over work is bland, flavorless and it just came off akward. I do give high marks for the special effects, these are a pain in the butt to do and they looked pretty good. All in all though I cannot reccomend this film. read

  Hi I liked the idea...I will say that it is was way too looooong. Your idea could have well been presented in a shorter film. The fight scene was a chance for you to try a bunch of special effects, i got that, but I did not need to see all of your experiments. The ending was perfect.....I thought she would have said yes....but hey maybe it wasn't her dream.....and what... Hi I liked the idea...I will say that it is was way too looooong.

  i agree that parts of this short are really good. some shots are very nice and even the cheesy effects work. it was a lot of fun in some areas. (i think it would be funny if they had hit points above their heads when they get hurt because it reminds me of RPGs). very inventive and its good to experiment with effects like these so you can use them in a better story. the... i agree that parts of this short are really good. some shots are very nice and even the cheesy effects work. it was a lot of fun in some areas.   I thought the film was really cool. The concept is a unique one; the battle between the two characters parallels the natural energies which many people believe exist and have influence in our world. Relating it to one interesting instance of emotion, the extent or lack of extent of ones feelings during an acquaintance, a first impression at sight, or love/hate at first glance,... I thought the film was really cool. The concept is a unique one; the battle between the two characters parallels the natural energies which many people believe exist and have influence in our world. Relating it to one interesting instance of emotion, the extent or lack of extent of ones feelings during an acquaintance, a first impression at sight, or love/hate at first glance, is well paralleled in this film.
  
  Recommendations:
  Use 3ds max to create an environment more surreal looking for your fight scene. Add some color correction which will define your initial and final scenes that take place in the class room; because in my opinion the color motiff was very plain in these scenes. The fight sequences were obviosuly filmed in step by step, often slow, segmented components, and thus it was evident in the film. Unforunatelly, changing the speed duration of a track in post as you very well know will look choppy, so my advice here is to either just bear and grin with what you have, reshoot the the fight sequences at a speed more consistant with real a time action sequence. My final critique would be to add a bit more to your beginning and end scenes as far as dialog, environment, and character, to really bring your audience in, give them a sense that they are actually there, not just watching from a safe distance...let them feel the scene...don't be affriad to submerse your audience into your world and show your artistic touch!!
  
  Overall, I would not at this time recommend this video for competition, but I do like the concept, and believe that if you were to make some adjustments here and there and in essence refurbish your film, it just may be ready for competition..... read
