  I knew I was being manipulated and would have resented it in a longer piece. I liked the crispness of the images and that the actors kept it simple. It wouldn't have worked if they had gone for a more emotional delivery. This is not a new concept but it is done well. I could see this as an anti smoking add with very little editing.   It's a short piece, but an effective one. Very original in its visual design, though perhaps the concept itself is less than original (thinking of many anti-smoking campaigns). Nonetheless, it keeps you guessing until the end. The production is quality, the sound is great (though, I would've liked a bit more of an impacting sound when the man jumped with the rope to hang... The production is quality, the sound is great (though, I would've liked a bit more of an impacting sound when the man jumped with the rope to hang himself, like wood shifting with the weight change or something), and the music is unnerving.

  but i don't like the idea. i really really really don't like the whole 1 to 1, cigarettes = death, pot = death. they don't. its not true and i don't think it fools any one. but it is! i hear you say. yes yes, in 40 to 60 years cigarettes will kill you. that is not the same as putting a gun in our mouth, in anguish, and ending your own existence, to escape its apparent horrors... but i don't like the idea. i really really really don't like the whole 1 to 1, cigarettes = death, pot = death. they don't. its not true and i don't think it fools any one. but it is! i hear you say. yes yes, in 40 to 60 years cigarettes will kill you. that is not the same as putting a gun in our mouth, in anguish, and ending your own existence, to escape its apparent horrors. these sorts of anti what ever adds insult the intelligence of children, and i think, as a result of there new found disrespect for your message, the message backfires. tell them that in ten years an average smoker spends 10,000$ on cigarettes. "do you want to be like joe? the smoker" we see joe clean out an ash tray, stare at a bowl of roman unable to keep eating. "or do you want to be like jim?" the none smoker. we see jim holding 10,000$ smiling obscenely. buying a top of the line computer, stuffing money in a strippers g-sting. what ever.

  „Difference?“ is a short film that not only shows Michael Oldhouse’s quality as a filmmaker but also as a story teller: a technically well made production, far away from an ordinary non smoking commercial. This film has the potential power to convince a chain smoker to finally get rid of his/her habit.

  Very good here, I would say. With minimum materials, you achieve a lot of message, have excellent timing skills, and keep a decent interesting sound quality throughout. Yet, it is subtle to suggest our last, handsome, healthy subject will succumb to a premature ending due to his actions. (I am a non-smoker, so this is fare criticism.) A cough, might have helped, but then... Very good here, I would say. With minimum materials, you achieve a lot of message, have excellent timing skills, and keep a decent interesting sound quality throughout. Yet, it is subtle to suggest our last, handsome, healthy subject will succumb to a premature ending due to his actions. (I am a non-smoker, so this is fare criticism.) A cough, might have helped, but then I think a lot of folks would have called it cliche. Still, liked the bareness of it and the music that hints of the end of our pill gal (that was very subtle). Like to see more of what you can do. read

  Why? Why do i like this movie? Because that's what it makes me ask. Why? This is a mirror image of society showing that this is what we do to each other and moreso ourselve. Its just all in one belt in this short. The music brought a great feel to this one. The acting was really good too, i especially liked the first guy, almost thinking he wasn't going to do it because he... Why? Why do i like this movie? Because that's what it makes me ask. Why? This also shows the time it takes to do something so terrible. This film was under 4 minutes and 4 people were killed off. And i liked it, not that they died but that this is what we face everyday. read

  This short film was somewhat confusing, what is it trying to say? The only thing i think i got was that smoking is suicide? If thats the case i think the film should have had a little more understanding towards it. But i did enjoy the music and the plain white background, it forced you to watch the people then the surroundings.

  is between the quality of this and other TriggerStreet shorts. Though minimalist, I was instantly pulled in - like "Sixth Sense", the first image left me compelled to watch, yet frightened to; intrigued by the chill going down my spine, yet aware that I'd have a harder time getting to sleep tonight. I certainly like the point you make here, but I don't find it necessary to... is between the quality of this and other TriggerStreet shorts.
  Though minimalist, I was instantly pulled in - like "Sixth Sense", the first image left me compelled to watch, yet frightened to; intrigued by the chill going down my spine, yet aware that I'd have a harder time getting to sleep tonight.
  I certainly like the point you make here, but I don't find it necessary to pontificate. The short speaks for itself, and it's a great short, indeed. read

  For your first film I have to say you did a good job. I was wondering how you got the look of your film, and after reading your production notes I see you used a green screen. The use of music was well done. It would of been way easy to go over the top but, you held back and did it right.I liked your film and it took guts to make it.   I enjoyed the concept of your short film. Different!! It's interesting that you compare the thought of blowing your brains out with smoking a cigarette. Very interesting exploration. We can than look at drinking, the things we eat etc..I guess it boils down to the choice..Life or death and the many roads to those places and how we as individuals play a big part in the process...
