  I think this one is from a while ago, therefore there were some technical issues. I could follow what was going on, but it may be worth sticking a higher quality version up on Vimeo and linking it from there. Some really nice shots here, especially the silhouette stuff. Music helped set the tone. Story wise, without the synopsis I'd have been slightly wondering what was going... I think this one is from a while ago, therefore there were some technical issues. I think this may benefit from a bit of a tighter cut - shaving a couple of minutes off this may keep things moving a bit better. Good work. read

  The idea/concept is a good one, however, w/out the synopsis, the story is hard to follow. Right now, the film struggles to get it's point across. The ending would actually be much more effective if we could see why the 'believer' is being persecuted, & imprisoned. As an audience member, I never felt the threat/suspense to empathize w/ the character, much less share his dilemma... I think you need to work on the story, speed up the film's pace, & give us more backstory. Good luck. read

  First of all, the music did not fit with this, uhhm, "film". Second, where was the plot? No story, just personal feelings. The picture of the boy, was it is son or nephew? Why was he imprisoned, and who by? Was he praying because he was going to go out the room and shoot his imprisoners or because he knew that he was going to get shot? It is possible to create a film,... First of all, the music did not fit with this, uhhm, "film". Second, where was the plot? No story, just personal feelings. It is possible to create a film, have no dialog, and still the viewers know what it's about. Needs work. read

  As a paean to those who have died for their beliefs this film leaves so much to be desired. God knows millions of people have died for their beliefs, good or bad. But, the notion that this film is somehow honoring that raises the question of what the filmmaker meant to express with this film. That is very unclear and therefore this film falls flat. The music choice is great and beautiful (although it sounds like it's been lifted from a feature film score). The only thing that comes across is that a man goes to another room to do his prayers and then is called back to the first room (apparently his dormitory) and then a gunshot is overheard, strongly suggesting that the praying man was shot. Why, who, what, etc., go unanswered and even un-addressed. How does seeing a praying one moment and then supposedly being shot address those who have died for their beliefs. Nothing in this suggests that the other man believes something different than the main character. Unfortunately, this is a film that thinks that if it behaves dramatically it will be dramatic. The reality is that for drama to exist you still, and always, need the basic elements of story. - Good luck and keep at it. read

  To me, this piece was more about trying to convey a feeling, rather than conveying a story. Too much of this movie is dependent on the Synopsis--and even with it, it leaves a lot of questions to the viewer.I think you need to include all the information from the synopsis into your movie. If your movie was playing at the theater, there would be no way for the audience to get... To me, this piece was more about trying to convey a feeling, rather than conveying a story. If your movie was playing at the theater, there would be no way for the audience to get what this was about. It's just a guy moping around a room, for the most part. Show some religious imagery, then immediately link that to the imprisonment visuals. Without words, you'll really need to stress the points you're trying to make.Inasmuch as some poetry doesn't tell a story, but tries to induce mood--that's the same type of thing I got here. It'd work if you gave more than just the seemingly same image of the guy moping around, and if this was being screened where the audience expected poetry rather than story. read

  Here I see another example of a short with no beginning, no middle, and no ending, no plot, no story. I have absolutely no idea what this director/actor was trying to convey. There are obvious religous overtones depicted. A picture of a son or a brother, or just a young kid. Why was he imprisoned in his own home? Did he commit a crime with the kid? Was he sentenced to... Here I see another example of a short with no beginning, no middle, and no ending, no plot, no story. I have absolutely no idea what this director/actor was trying to convey. Was he sentenced to imprisonment by his Cleric. Why pick western cultural classical music for the sound track? Especially during the call to prayer. Was the man being protected because likes to self-inflict bodily harm? I have already spent more time trying to figure this one out then the producer did in its planning. Good-bye! read

  Not sure what this was about. I read the synopsis, but didn't get any of that from the film. I liked the cinematography, but the soundtrack overpowered any drama the film would've conveyed. Cut the music. The pacing was too slow and the piece was too long over all. I didn't get much from the characters. This is especially important when the story is confusing.

  Without reading the synopsis, I would not have figured out any element of the storyline from the short, and probably would have been scratching my head at the significance of the final sound effect at the end. Some intersting camera angles, but the pacing and story was'nt engaging enough for the length of the film. Perhaps a shorter version would make the audience actually...   A consistent problem in amateur short film is soundtrack music. In imprisonment the music, rather than hiding the lack of script, emphasises it. The shooting and acting convey a sense of grief but unfortunately this is spoiled by over-sentimental and repetitive music. Turn the volume off and the film is more effective. Still - I feel without the two line intro "A man is imprisoned...etc"... A consistent problem in amateur short film is soundtrack music.
