  Projects like this always carry with them a weight of emotion - which is easy to overplay and difficult to get right. But ultimately, when creating a film like this - you are giving yourself a big responsibility. The sound is awful - I could barely hear any of it.. whether it was too loud and distorted, or too quiet, it was very difficult to view. The to camrea interviews were...   The to camrea interviews were interesting; even if they felt a little unstructured and long. Obviously, you want everyone to learn a lot about this guy; but people's attentions are short, even when the topic is a man and AIDS. You need to get as much of his character and story across, but in an easy to digest and interesting way; which at times you didn't here.
  I can't stress enough though how badly the music ruined your film.
  A commendable effort though; with some good editing. read

  This was a likeable film though it's a bit odd to call it 'his journey through life with a terminal illness, in that caswe Life is a terminal illness. It's also disingenuous calling it a terminal illness since many in America will have long lives. Other than that this was a pretty standard fare documentary with nothing particularly odious or enthralling. Camera, editing, etc...   Its nice to have films made out of this subject. This are stories that everyone should be aware that really happends. Thats one of the biggest parts of filmaking in my oppinion. To show a "reality" to an audience so they can simpathize and gain knowladge from it. The only problem that I see in this documentary film is the editing. The only problem that I see in this documentary film is the editing. It doesnt really have a strong structure in it. With more work in the editing this film could be perfected. I would have preffer a better introduction wich gives us a more dynamic peek of the meaning of the documentary. The other problem I had with the film was the audio. Mayve it was because of the compression. I really enjoy the film goodd work! read

  I like the idea because its very innovative and optimistic. The piece is very meaningful and what touches me the most is Shawn's love for life and even though he is fighting a battle which I am praying that he wins, his love for the craft is so alive and his smile never wanes. What better cast than someone with so much life. Editing is marvellous. I am not very fond of steady... I like the idea because its very innovative and optimistic.   Editing is marvellous. I am not very fond of steady shots, but I understand its a documentary piece done through interview style. But what I liked about it is the wonderful editing that elevates the shooting style and gives it a completely different character - especially the inserts of the stills.
  Shawn looks beautiful and is the best impersonator of Madonna that I have ever seen.
  On a personal note, if you are reading, Shawn, all the best and I hope we can hear a lot more stories from you for a long long time and take your pills on time! read

  A very powerful and moving story. How nice of Madonna's publishing company to allow you to use her music in this documentary. The biggest downfall of this movie was the audio. I do realize that performing in a nightclub/bar type of setting you are going to encounter ambient noise, but I do feel the problem would be minimal if a better mic had been used. The same goes for the scene with Shawn at his home. Documentary-wize, I really like your style. You did very well at telling a story about Shawn's life. Very moving, yet lighthearted at the same time. Nicely done. read

  I thought this was a very srong positive documentary, which I think is good enough to show the awarness of aids and perhaps edcuate many people who are misunderstood or ill informed on this matter.The obvious shame about this film was the sound because it would have made the film so much better, I think the main problem was too high levels which made it distort, and that was... I thought this was a very srong positive documentary, which I think is good enough to show the awarness of aids and perhaps edcuate many people who are misunderstood or ill informed on this matter.The obvious shame about this film was the sound because it would have made the film so much better, I think the main problem was too high levels which made it distort, and that was a shame.It was a good idea and I thought Shawn worked very well on camera, being honest about his feelings but also saying the positives of aids, I never thought I would hear that said, but when he spoke about the positives it certainly made me think, and this was clearly the sucess of this idea that it made you think, listen and learn and when that comes acoss, in a documentry its always a sucess despite some technical flaws. read

  As a documentary, it started off quite thrillingly, but it seemed to me that the film's intensity got lost in the middle. While I understand the focus of the film is Shawn's life and his illness, but overall, I felt it was more focused on his life and the illness seemed secondary. It is good that his mini-bio was provided in the beginning of the interview, but I felt that...   Touching piece. The opening was good and had me expecting a high energy piece but the story and a documentary is still a story seemd to drag as the film went on. I'd say you have enough matterial to reedit something shorter and more worthy of your subject matter. I was fascinated that Shawn felt AIDS was not the worst thing that's happened in his life and touched by the... Touching piece.   Seems like a special person but the short relies too much on the subject and doesn't do the simple work (lighting, editing, sound, camera, etc.) that has to be represented to show the story correctly. It's a great message of hope and life but, the work is sub-par and the piece deserved better, I think. Good luck Shawn.

  I've read your production notes and I know you know, but I still have to say the audio was TERRIBLE. It made me miss half of the message you were trying to carry here. Sorry about. In reviewing a documentary, I am always reluctant to lambast someone's work since one doesn't normally make a doc unless it's a subject they feel strongly about or really feel like it's worth... In reviewing a documentary, I am always reluctant to lambast someone's work since one doesn't normally make a doc unless it's a subject they feel strongly about or really feel like it's worth telling. What can I say about it? It's sad, very touching, and well told. The opener was pretty long, with some repeated shots and it was difficult to feel what you were trying to establish with such a long intro. I saw that some of the outfits were a little more Boy George than Madonna, but I get it now. read
