  This film didn't work for me. There was simply not enough background in the script to support the "surprise" ending. It was flimsy. It was generally well edited, especially when it came to the music track. The music, whether selected or composed, cut well and did advanced the Western (or Western-spoof) theme.   If you watch some of the true old Westerns, they're probably not much better on the production value. Plenty of them have worse acting. But they do develop a plot that is easy to follow and makes perfect sense. This one should have started there. read

  I thought the filmmakers did a good job. It was believable and felt like we went back in time. The camera work was god. I liked the actors. The location was good. The editing worked. The story was well written. I also liked the music and thought it help set the mood. Good job.

  I was sceptical at fisrt how they were going to make this cmaedy end. I enjoyed the characters and the twists that kept the comedy flowing. I however thought that lead actor over played his part a bit, therefore taking away from the overall experience of the film. But all in all this was very good idea and I am glad I have seen it and that is my reveiw.

  Although I really wanted to like Manolito - with it's quiet desert landscape, and humble Mexican sidekick, in the end I just found it a bit dull. The humour didn't really register with me, leading to several awkward moments where I felt I should be laughing but wasn't, despite the actors over-the-top performances - the lines just weren't that funny. Having said that, Manolito... Although I really wanted to like Manolito - with it's quiet desert landscape, and humble Mexican sidekick, in the end I just found it a bit dull. The humour didn't really register with me, leading to several awkward moments where I felt I should be laughing but wasn't, despite the actors over-the-top performances - the lines just weren't that funny. Having said that, Manolito himself was the best part of this movie (espeacially his humble, but 'all knowing' smile when he reveals himself to the coyboys. The movie was shot well - in that I didn't notice the camerawork - and the sound was even and smooth (though a bit sparse, even for the desert).
  Overall - well put together, fine acting, just in need of a reworked script. read

  But not without some constructive critisim... but first, what worked. The costumes were good, nice and authentic. The actors seemed very into their roles and performed well.   The opening shot was a bit uninspired, I thought as I was watching it of two other angles that would have been more interesting.
  Some of the times it seemed that you REALLY wanted to get the landscape behind you actors, but by doing so you kept them almost at the bottom of the frame. Try lowering the camera and shooting a bit upwards.
  Instead of some of the useless chatter at the begining, they should have addressed the legend of Monolito, that way at the end, we know why they are shocked.
  
  Nice freeze frame at the end. Good luck in the future. read

  Very well produced little film. From the very start it was quality. The camera setups were very nice, setting off the landscape and the actors, the editing did a good job of realizing the director's conception of style and tone, and the actors were appealing and talented. The script crackled with wit and fun, it would have been nice if it really went somewhere but still a... Very well produced little film. From the very start it was quality.   This was great! All short films should aspire to do what these guys did on the budget they shot it on. The script was funny, the acting was far better than the standard set on most low budget films. In fact, these actors were far better than most seen in low budget Hollywood films. The camera work, tone, sound and just about every other aspect of the film is exceptional,... This was great! All short films should aspire to do what these guys did on the budget they shot it on.   OK, but a little long for the material

  I could see everything and hear everything so I won't knock you on directing, but the story didn't warrant the length of time you spent telling it. Maybe spend more time on story next time before you pack up gear and start 'painting with light' as directors like to call it. I just didn't respond to this short. Sorry.

  This was a genuinely terrific short film. The standard of this year's festival truly is sky high. Maximum respect for undertaking the western genre when this scenario could have so easily been transplanted to the present day to much less interesting effect. Witty, disconcertingly authentic dialogue spun the story beautifully. The light, skillful work by the actors was bang... This was a genuinely terrific short film. Inventive, gently satirical work behind the camera really added a layer of pastiche to preceeding. The open ended ending really fit brilliantly too. I can't say that I've honestly longed for a sequel to a short film before, but I certainly did when this one's credits rolled. Great stuff all round! read

  Manolito is alive! Harlin and William learn that too late, but that's the hole idea I guess. From the beginning to the end, I watched this film with a smile on my face. William shot Harlin's horse. Harlin says "eye for an eye". They robbed a train but stole just the envelopes. And William was right. He really smelled something. I think that's a great short film to watch and... The concept is funny, so are actors. Especially William. And Manolito legend reminds me of Soze, which is good. Keep going!!! read
