  Meat. Meat. Meat. Forty seven to go. There isn't much to say about meat. The title pretty much gives all the information we are going to get from this film and the film delivers shots of men and their meat. Along with all the odd shots of diagrams or something.   Smooth edits,....and considering the same clips are repeatedly shown, if you want to know about meat cutting, the process, and all the steps for processing beef,....this is the video for you. In one of the clips (a close up, I have way expected blood to come squiering out,....now that would have been an attention getter

  I have to agree with many of the other reviews, not sure what the expectation was. I do feel this would be better served as part of an art installation or be paired with some more context upfront whether as part of the film or some offline experience. Some of the flash visuals didn't seem to have enough symbolism to to drive a stronger message. Personally I can appreciate...   This short strikes me as very art-gallery friendly, in that I could imagine it as a video installation as part of a wider exhibition on the progression of industrialisation or the dehumanising effects of capitalism. If this is the intended subject matter, I'd have to say I prefer Chaplin's 'Modern Times'. The mash-up style is certainly reminiscent of Lynch, and the eerie... This short strikes me as very art-gallery friendly, in that I could imagine it as a video installation as part of a wider exhibition on the progression of industrialisation or the dehumanising effects of capitalism. If this is the intended subject matter, I'd have to say I prefer Chaplin's 'Modern Times'.
  
  The mash-up style is certainly reminiscent of Lynch, and the eerie slicing music provides a fitting soundtrack to the repetitive meat packing scenes. Despite this, the film didn't particularly move me or stimulate any particularly strong reactions. It was a well crafted short, just not something I could connect with on a personal level. read

  Similar videos to these of even a more graphic nature about the killing and torturing and processing of everyday meats like cold cuts, steak, pork, etc., were shown to me in seventh grade and I made up my mind then that I didn't want to eat meat anymore, and about a year after that in 1989 I quit meat cold turkey and haven't eaten any since. This being said, I can appreciate...   This being said, I can appreciate the different kind of horror showcased in this video because it's the same kind of horror that made me a vegetarian a long time ago.
  
  Kudos to the filmmaker for showcasing real horror that most have never seen, and don't care to witness because if they did there would be a lot more vegetarians in the world. read

  I don't know why this was called a horror film. Because it was done in black and white and had meat carcasses? I also would like to know how I got assigned a film that is in the hall of justice. This struck me as a bad film by a veggan, trying to get me to stop eating meat. I'm sorry but I'm a meat eater and that's final. It's not dinner without a dead animal on my plate. This... I don't know why this was called a horror film. Because it was done in black and white and had meat carcasses? I also would like to know how I got assigned a film that is in the hall of justice. This struck me as a bad film by a veggan, trying to get me to stop eating meat. I'm sorry but I'm a meat eater and that's final. It's not dinner without a dead animal on my plate. This short will not get me to change my mind. My father ran a morgue, and I'm used to watching autopsy, so there was no terror for me in this film. read

  Wierd noise over stock footage.

  What are you expecting from this? It would be one thing if this was modern footage that all this stuff was still going on or modern footage shot through older techniques, but as it is this is just blah with bad music going behind it. Sorry, but I am looking for at least a little bit of a narrative even if it is abstract.

  I really didnt understand this at all. There was no message behind it. it just seemed like a load of documentary style footage that could be shown to kids in school about where meat comes from, roughly edited together with some wierd music added to it. this really wasnt for me.

  There are some striking images in Meat and it definitely engaged my senses. Despite it not being my cup-of-tea, it was a thought provoking film. I liked the mixture of footage and it had a very dark and gruesome feel to it. The editing was good and the film flowed well. Meat is well worth watching, if only to provoke some thoughts of what more could be added.

  Bravo, sir. I've seen all of David Lynch's short films (at least the ones available to the public), and of course many of his feature films. As a throwback to those films (particularly his wacko short films), this is spot on. None of his short films really make a lick of sense to me, and in a thematic way, this doesn't either. But, there are two qualities that both his shorts... Bravo, sir.
  
  I've seen all of David Lynch's short films (at least the ones available to the public), and of course many of his feature films. As a throwback to those films (particularly his wacko short films), this is spot on.
  
  None of his short films really make a lick of sense to me, and in a thematic way, this doesn't either. But, there are two qualities that both his shorts and this have that make them stand-out:
  
  1) They use repetition and juxtaposition of images to evoke some type of response. Whether that response is confusion, understanding, self-reflection or something else is rather irrelevant. They sharply evoke some kind of emotion through the use of visuals and some audio; rarely ever dialogue.
  
  2) They are always dreamlike. Not necessarily good dreams - they can be nightmarish, but they are always surreal. And the interesting thing is that any one image taken by itself is not surreal. It is the arrangement of images that arouses the feelings of bizarre and chimerical worlds. And it is in this arrangement that one either succeeds or fails. You have succeeded.
  
  Good job. To critique the "story" of something like this would be about as productive as trying to teach a dog how to play chess. So I shall say no more. read
