  It's taking me longer to write the review than the films'actual running time. DV footage was very impressive (the sound FX and score), also is quite adequately employed here. The lighting, set design and special FX, also very good, plus, good closeups and inserts. However, where is the narrative? I didn't see a victim at all, the Butcher appears to be stabbing himself...

  The cinematography in your movie was done really well. The sound design was done well. The blood and guts looked very real. You can take all of these accomplishments away with you and feel proud of them. I also liked the fact that it was only a minute long. With something so graphic, I wouldn't want to watch anymore than that!! I didn't see a story here. It seemed like... The cinematography in your movie was done really well. I didn't like the mood of the film, and it seemed like it was more of a scene than a whole piece. I ( if its even possible ) didn't understand the last shots. I couldn't tell if it was body parts, or just hot dogs and other foods on the table next to the Jack-O-Lantern, which made me wonder if the whole film led to some kind of joke. Joke or not, I couldn't tell either way what I was looking at. If you had a story to tell I think you may be able to do a fine job telling it since you make nice shots, but this short wasn't the worst I've seen either. It's not bad for a ( pun intended ) Hack Job. I look forward to seeing you grow as a filmmaker, and I hope to see something with some story to it. BTW, this review took about 3 times longer to write than it took to watch the film.

  Nice blood. Nice jack-o-lantern too. Also, the sound of the knife strikes reminded me of the shower scene in Psycho. This is way too short to make a complete statement. It would make a good introduction to a longer short, but does not stand on its own. My suggestion would be to add to it and re-submit.

  The short film The Butcher, Baker, and Nightmare did not have a descent plot and it had a few good points in filming. I found it horrible done due to plot. Another thing that was done horribly was the fake blood. A positive point that was done in this film was the camera angles and the zooming. I found the plot to be horrible.   I found the plot to be horrible. I found it horrible because it led to nothing. It would lead to nothing because it would appear of a killer consistently stabbing a person. It would show the knife thrusting towards the body and it would have “blood” splattering around. This “blood” was misleading as it brought the viewer to believe a person was getting stabbed when it was just the man carving a pumpkin. I found the plot to be pointless.
  The “blood” would appear to be completely bogus in the film. It almost looked as if it were ketchup. I felt it was over done.
  A positive point in this film was the camera angles. I found the angle of the person holding the knife and thrusting it towards the “body” to be done amazingly. I found it to be done amazingly because it brought the viewer to see how serious it would be. It would bring the viewer to believe that it would be occurring to them.
  The zooming in this film was amazingly done. It was amazingly done because every stab towards the body” was zoomed in and out. Making it seem really serious. read

  i didn't see a story in this short. i saw a bunch of footage put together that looked like it was shot by a 2nd Unit and then edited and submitted on this website. i'm not sure what the point of this short was. while the editing was faced paced, a couple times the shots held too long. i would suggest in future a story would be helpful. the only thing i did enjoy about the short... i didn't see a story in this short. i saw a bunch of footage put together that looked like it was shot by a 2nd Unit and then edited and submitted on this website. i'm not sure what the point of this short was. while the editing was faced paced, a couple times the shots held too long. i would suggest in future a story would be helpful. the only thing i did enjoy about the short was the music. i found it very fitting and enjoyable. the rest of it was a montage that i didn't understand the meaning of, even upon multiple viewings. read

  Not too much to this one. A modicum of suspense is created, but it is pretty quickly dispelled by the punchline. The overall concept is something that's been out there for a bit (deceiving audience into thinking a person is being carved up instead of a pumpkin). That's not a reason not to execute on something, but on something this simple it might. As for the film itself,... Not too much to this one.   As for the film itself, the shots are okay as is the editing/music/etc. The big problem with this piece is the color/texture of the "blood." Human gore looks nothing like pumpkin gore but in order to sell the gag you have to make the two indistinguishable. The quality of the gore used didn't look like human blood at all, but it doesn't look like anything that would come out of a pumpkin either.
  
  Two suggestions:
  1) Shoot it in black and white to further mask the color of the blood. You could then have the color "bleed in" for the last shot.
  2) Shoot it in color and make the blood look a little more human-y. Then reveal the jack-o-latern. Then do a double reveal and reveal a dead body. See? Because you make the audience think "phew, he was carving a pumpkin the whole...oh my god, he killed a man." Ah, nevermind.
  
  I guess ultimately this is something that would appeal to a broad (younger?) crowd and could possibly work as an ad for Knott's Scary Farm. read

  greeat images and editing...and pumpkin carving skill. yes, it was a little bloody for some viewers taste, i am sure. but not mine. loved the ambiance setting music and the use of sound effets (did you make those or download them. your camera work was stunning - again, great images. overall a very effective piece. good luck with future projects. can't wait to see something... greeat images and editing...and pumpkin carving skill. yes, it was a little bloody for some viewers taste, i am sure. but not mine. loved the ambiance setting music and the use of sound effets (did you make those or download them. your camera work was stunning - again, great images. overall a very effective piece.

  I love films like this! Short, very stylish, and well produced. Even thought the blood doesn't make much sense being in the film, I still enjoyed watching it. I can see why you used the blood though - using pumpkin guts would have given it away right off the bat. I suppose the only other way you could have went was by making it a black and white film - hmmm, tough one to... I love films like this! Short, very stylish, and well produced.   But still, the style and the overall quality of the production definitely makes this a very cool little film to watch - Great job! read

  I would love something like this. This, however, leaves me flat. If he was only ever carving a pumpkin, what's with all the red? Which, by the way, was poorly colored if it was supposed to be blood. But then maybe it wasn't. I consider myself a champion pumpkin carver and I've never carved one with such a stabbing motion. I've butchered a few that way, but not come up with... I would love something like this. This, however, leaves me flat. If he was only ever carving a pumpkin, what's with all the red?   It's not easy to say something in a minute, extremely hard to say something that matters, this succeeded in the former with a twisty style that resulted in a succesfully cute movie, nothing deep though it had its dark texture, it was pretty light fare, with good camera and editing and audio, good job and good luck.
