  This isn't film-making at its best. I wish the visuals were a bit more clean. The editing could have been tightened up by cutting to the beats of the music. It would have made the video more crisp and drawn attention to that specific shot. I felt like the images were just thrown in.

  As I watched this piece I appreciated how much time must have gone into editing the film. New York is a wonderful place to shoot. The skyline, and the streets are very cinematic. I espcially loved the old man (or woman)who was hobbling down the street. There are so many of the elderly in the city. I couldn't help getting the feeling that they were alone in the city. I espcially loved the old man (or woman)who was hobbling down the street. There are so many of the elderly in the city. I couldn't help getting the feeling that they were alone in the city. This is the first time I saw an Elmer Lang movie that involvled only music. It was a nice change of pace. This is my 3rd Elmer Lang review, in two days. Keep it up Elmer. read

  I thought the song was very soon, a nice alt-country sort of song, though I'm no country music expert. What I liked best, however, was the bar -- even barren -- cityscape, the grayness, and the avoidance of simple visual effects to enhance that look. It works well. On the other hand, there isn't much of a narrative thread here. I get the theme, but I think it could use more...   I thought the song was very nice and moving, but the images didn't match the melody. I think you might be trying to go for the humanity aspect and I see the major potential in what you shot...the humanity was missing. It's difficult because with a piece that is entirely based on music, you don't want to go so extreme to show sensationalism as that proves false, but we need... It's difficult because with a piece that is entirely based on music, you don't want to go so extreme to show sensationalism as that proves false, but we need more of the humanity. Why was this important to you? It was too surreal...too abstract and I think you could have something really moving if maybe you included the parallel for example of people praying, a buddist man in ritualistic prayer on his mat and children playing on the playground. Compassion, right? We're missing direction, theme and humanity. Video needs more specifics. The song is nice. read

  I really like the concept but I feel that it would have been much more entertaining if the stock footage would not have been used as much. Also I think the camera work would have flowed much better with a dolly or steadi cam included with a touch of color correction. Nice try and I wish you success. Thanks and cheers.

  Beautiful and interesting visuals to go with a soulful sounding song from Elmer Lang makes this music video style short a really cool one. Elmer keeps offering intriguing short films of different styles from sad stories to laugh out loud Max Headroom style ones to poignant films like the one about his beloved mother, and all of them seem to deliver in a good way.   This is the third film of yours that I've reviewed, had it been the first I wouldn't be impressed. I know you think differently perhaps but you put your films here to be reviewed, like the rest of us. It felt rushed. At times voyeuristic, overly. I did like your other films so have that underpinning this review, but this film didn't feel like it was in the same vein as the...   The uploader himself warns upfront that he produces shorts his own way. There is definitely merit in being ones own self and not trying to uphold the ideals of someone else. I really enjoyed the song that played throughout the short. The song was very emotional and really helped give the short a personality. Due to the lack of traditional dialogue, without a good song selection... The uploader himself warns upfront that he produces shorts his own way.   I enjoyed "The Hills are Bare" after watching it a second time after a period of a few days. The song is great, visuals are fun and moving and the few minutes are just enough. I especially liked watching the older woman walking with her back to the camera towards the end. I agree with your attached statement about "I don't give a f*** if I'm following the rules of filmdom";... I enjoyed "The Hills are Bare" after watching it a second time after a period of a few days. If you were making films just for 'you' then you wouldn't put them on triggerstreet. Thanks for a nice short film. read
