  Calling in Dead

  The concept is incredibly simple but good. Who can't relate with faking sick and calling in to the boss? Calling in dead is even better. Technically: The sound cuts out at 0:37 as he makes his decision. The cutting out of sound effectively focuses the viewer, I think, and communicates the indecision, but the silence ran a bit long, for my taste anyway. The payoff, that...   The payoff, that he actually is dead, works. Here's a variation. What if he was preparing for something while making the call, like packing his bags, or even just tying his shoes, or maybe there's a friend with him, urging him on. "Come on, let's go, man." (The grim reaper??) Then when he hangs up, we see he leaves, and there's the corpse. Just a thought.
  
  Overall, entertaining. I could see this either worked up into a bit more elaborate a short, or, to contradict myself, made shorter still and turned into a tv commercial for a daring travel company or such.

  That was hilarious and creepy all at the same time. I think everyone has used the "my car wont start" and I'm sure we have all heard of "my grandma dies three times this year" maybe even a few of us have heard "i don't have any shoes to wear" but i haven't heard "I'm dead" until today. The camera work was very simple and well done. Nothing fancy and allowed me to concentrate... That was hilarious and creepy all at the same time.

  The camera work was very simple and well done. Nothing fancy and allowed me to concentrate on the story. The story was short and to the point and not dragged out to lose my attention, which i appreciated. Good actor. I think you had all the makings of good film work! Congrats! read

  First of all, I loved the ending. The image at the end of the Man laying next to his dead self was awesome. Very nice. That said I think your buildup may be a little slow. It takes about a minute in a four minute movie for him to pick up the phone, which is a choice but I feel like there's something interesting that could happen in that minute, or you could get right to the...   The phone dialog was good if maybe a little over-sold on the part of the boss on the other end of the phone.
  
  At first, when Bob claims he's dead I assumed it was a lame joke and worried about where it was going, but that made the payoff all the more interesting.
  
  Great job on the intriguing premise, and challenging the audience's perceptions. read

  Hi, first of all I want to congratulate you because starting and finishing a film is not an easy task to accomplish. Now getting into details I want to point out things that I liked but also things that I think are not the best. The story itself it's something really common and it has happened to most of us, the excuses. I like the other side, the other point of view of someone... Hi, first of all I want to congratulate you because starting and finishing a film is not an easy task to accomplish.
  Now getting into details I want to point out things that I liked but also things that I think are not the best.
  The story itself it's something really common and it has happened to most of us, the excuses. I like the other side, the other point of view of someone that is actually really bad but can't get the trust of his boss. I also like the way you played with the telephone, the indecision and how he switches. The dramatic progress was really nice at that time.
  What I don't get is if all the apes represents the boss, because I don't know why you took so much attention for them if they are not relevant for the story.
  Some directors may differ in this but I like the way how we present the conflict, fight to try to get our goals and see if we succed or not.
  I don't see the real objective of the character, what does he want? you may say he wanted to get his boss up to date, or he just wanted to tell his boss he is really sick and already dead. But what next? was it all? did he accomplish his goal?
  Another good thing is that you didn't change the the camera from his left side, that gave us continuity and axis affinity.
  I don't really like that you presented the character already dead because people get more interested in things if they can't see them, if they have to build in their minds the missing parts. Maybe the character didn't say the truth and was not dead, but that was a surprise or a confirmation.
  
  I guess this is it I hope you can write back.

  Love the title. Visuals, dialogue and music were excellent. The lighting and sound were sharp and clear. Roll eyes at myself, but I didn't understand the ending. There was probably a clear or perhaps very deep meaning to it that flew over my head. Overall, extremely well done. Best, Montana

  I really liked the premise of this short. A guy who keeps calling in sick to work with a different lame excuse. Don't we all wish we could do that. I thought the button at the end was a good reveal. My only negative critique would be the sound and ADR.

  This is going to be a pseudo-review, because I'm not quite sure what to do in this situation. I would have loved to have watched your film - and I hope I'm not breaking any of the site rules - but I tried to play the video, and a disclaimer emerged stating that the film was unavailable. Let me know if this problem gets fixed, and I'd be happy to review your film! (:

  A quirky little film that delivers its message, drops in a twist, and is then on its way, top and tailed by idiosyncratic music and shots. I enjoyed this. The idea is simple but interesting, the acting convincing and direction assured and left-field without trying too hard to be different. Unfortunately I think the editing let it down - the first act was slack, it needed...   Unfortunately I think the editing let it down - the first act was slack, it needed ambience and there was a horrible audio cut coming off the titles that really jarred. This aside, I found the film original and enjoyable. read

  An all to familiar scenario to all of us who have taken a day or two off work. I though it was approached really well, the scene was set beautifully and the dialogue was great. Great acting and some really good camera angles. I like the twist in the end but I feel the piece could have been longer with some time spent on the characters fear of phoning in. Great effort.

  I loved your short! This was really one of the better shorts I've seen on this site. Your use of imagery at the beginning was inspired, the use of the music as well. Of course, it was also clever and very funny, and then we get that ending, which leaves you thinking. The performance and production values were also impressive.
