  ..considering the premise of the short that the acting in it is one of its strongest points. I'll state here (not for the first time) that I really don't like the use of B&W in short films. But because the compression was poor here (should of made a compromise and cut down the screen size for quality) I can't say wether or not the B&W worked for or against! But because the compression was poor here (should of made a compromise and cut down the screen size for quality) I can't say wether or not the B&W worked for or against! Certainly didn't help matters with the distorting of some shots because of the bad compression. Did you opt for the b/w because of lighting issues? I know most editing suites these days (even the cheapy one I use) have lighting and colour correction included. A poor mans substitute I know but it's an option.
  I'm not a fan of the whole mockumentary thing because I just don't ever seem to enjoy them. This one actually did have me smiling. Good writing and decent acting paid off there. One shot took me out of it for a while but I think that was down to a rough cut in the editing. Again at points the sound was compromised but I'm betting that again was down to compression.
  Over all I liked it. For me this is probably the best mockumentary I've seen on TS. Its humour was constant rather then going OTT or just getting too silly. Good luck. read

  This one has good acting, good black and white photography, good lighting. The topic is fresh and ripe for humor. There's just one little problem. It's not funny. All the jokes are painfully obvious, ponderous, and belabored. I did watch this all the way to the end but I still don't know what the promised "twist" was. Bob Saget? P.S. Stanislavsky died in 1938.

  This short was not too bad. I liked the performance of Stanley the best, as well as the children. In terms of story, I liked the fact that his class was for children only, that was a nice touch. Of course the quality of the video left something to be desired, but the audio wasn't too bad considering how it was recorded. Overall it was ok.

  what twist ending? he was a stereotypical actor teaching bastard through the whole movie. there was no twist ending. i liked this movie better when it was called waiting for guffman. you have shown that everything we think we know about actors is true. teachers are egotistical lunk heads, stage moms are blind to their childrens lack of talent and there is always some fem-actor... what twist ending? he was a stereotypical actor teaching bastard through the whole movie. there was no twist ending. i liked this movie better when it was called waiting for guffman. you have shown that everything we think we know about actors is true. teachers are egotistical lunk heads, stage moms are blind to their childrens lack of talent and there is always some fem-actor who just wants to be seen - even if it is with bob saget. for a mockumentary you did fine. all the right shots have been taken and your actors are pretty good in their roles. hell, even the sound was godd.......but in the end, it seems like i have seen it all before. read

  I'm an actor, I get it, I dig it, I lived it. I thought it was well done, a worthy jab at a serious art that takes itself too seriously. Spot on from that view point. It was a well written, well acted piece, that was held together by string and duct tape as far as production value. I get the black and white and there was some semi-interesting lighting that carried me through... I'm an actor, I get it, I dig it, I lived it. I get the black and white and there was some semi-interesting lighting that carried me through some framing issues and weak pans. But more important, the story was told, and in a creative and interesting way. The atomic weight of the piece settled with the reveal of the kids. Overall review, not quite a curtain call, but I'll definately tip my cap and leave with a smile. read

  The fact that you have put in your synopsis that it's obvious when people don't make it to the MIDDLE of the movie should be a huge red flag that you just aren't holding people's interest. I thought the the acting was pretty good. Camera work and audio were fine given the technical limitations. The whole thing sort of hinges on whether or not you think the one big joke is... I tend to think there's just not enough here to carry the whole 9 plus minutes. It's simply not that funny. Might just be me, though. Overall, not bad. Good luck. read

  I enjoyed this short very much. It truly captured the reality of an acting teacher/coach who believes is own hype. The script was good and the actor who played Stanley Konklin was great. He was very typical of the pompus holy than thou coaches that believe they are Gods gift to the theatre. Very funny. It was hard to see sometimes and camera work was well... lets just say it...   This is a good film and I found it to be very enjoyable to watch. It was funny in all the right places and the characters were really likeable - especially Konklin and the little girl. Also, the writing was great too. I found the dialogue to be very naturally written which is not an easy thing to do. For a film with $0.00 for the budget and a low-end camera, this film was...   This film was well written and the acting was good. And I want to say that I liked it very much. It may draw too heavily from "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show" in style. The film is entertaining to listen to. The Writer / Director, in his production notes asks for reviewers to just comment on the story, acting etc... But in all fairness, this is film. It's a visual... This film was well written and the acting was good. And I want to say that I liked it very much. It may draw too heavily from "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show" in style.
  The film is entertaining to listen to. The Writer / Director, in his production notes asks for reviewers to just comment on the story, acting etc... But in all fairness, this is film. It's a visual medium. So I feel that it's fair to critique all aspects of the film and with that being said, I feel like there was a strong enough idea and acting, use of location etc... to put more effort into making it more watchable in this format. Even tweaking the compression could have helped. A film should hit on all cylinders, and should be more than just a good script and acting. read

  This was a pretty interesting documentary and it really felt like it was a telecourse. You know, learn acting by watching a tape of seeing a movie on the the net. This Konklin was great because he put it out there and the students could either deal with his ego or leave. I like how he made no apologies and was so cocky. I've had college professers just like this guy. I think... This was a pretty interesting documentary and it really felt like it was a telecourse. I like how he made no apologies and was so cocky. I've had college professers just like this guy. I think one thing that really dragged this verite documentary down a bit was the secretary guy. He didn't seem genuine. A few of the students didn't seem genuine. But it was great to see the contrast of the true pro, konklin, when he takes the stage. I guess my other problem was that the film really felt like it was too much of a slice-of-life concept. You know, like a documentary about... let's go visit our local glass blower. Anyway, the guy was an interesting subject and I would have rather stayed with him the whole time instead of getting these interviews from his boot-licking students. read
