  I really wish the screen size was larger and the quality was better as it's sometimes hard to tell what's going on. It seemed like it was pretty well done in general, and the special effects and sounds were good. War shorts are probably difficult to pull off, but I think you did a fine job with this one. My only criticism really is that near the beginning after Warren runs... I really wish the screen size was larger and the quality was better as it's sometimes hard to tell what's going on. My only criticism really is that near the beginning after Warren runs off we only get a brief glimpse of the Nazi walking into frame. Perhaps he could've been on screen a tad longer. But all in all, nice job. read

  This film has some excellent action shots and a good tone. However, it was a bit confusing for me to understand all the story beats because the image was really small and hard to make out what was going on. The costumes were good and the snow gave it a nice feel. Too bad we couldn't have learned more about the characters before the end. The final scene was excellent and really...   I thought it was pretty cool, but the movie was not unique in anyway. As a part of a feature, I can see it working, but by itself it was weak and disjointed. I think that if it's going to be a war movie, it needs something different about from an already overdone genre(Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, Band of Brothers, etc.) What will make the story different and appealing... I thought it was pretty cool, but the movie was not unique in anyway. As a part of a feature, I can see it working, but by itself it was weak and disjointed. I think that if it's going to be a war movie, it needs something different about from an already overdone genre(Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, Band of Brothers, etc.) What will make the story different and appealing to the audience? But I thought the camera work was great especially the fluid camera movements. read

  To be honest, I really didnt see the point to this short film. Sure, the sound design is good, the locations are well chosen and the camera work is solid, but the script was seriously lacking. Due to the fact that there is no character development, there was no sympathy for the character, or tension for that matter. Both are key elements for a compelling film and both are... To be honest, I really didnt see the point to this short film. Sure, the sound design is good, the locations are well chosen and the camera work is solid, but the script was seriously lacking.
  
  Due to the fact that there is no character development, there was no sympathy for the character, or tension for that matter. Both are key elements for a compelling film and both are lacking here. The film could have taken more time to develop the character so the viewer is a little more attached to the characters. To me, he came of as something as a coward and when the final gunshot was fired, I didnt care if he survived or not (although I assume he died).
  
  Its a little frustrating as the production on this is cool and with a good script, this could have been a moving piece. However, it turned out how many shorts tend to, decent technically but poor narrative. I hope that you spend more time developing the narrative and characters in your feature and hope that you manage to raise the funds to make it. I've no doubt that it'll look great, I'm just hoping for some soul to the film. All the best. read

  This movie was nearly impossible to see. The frame was so tiny and the compression made it virtually impossibel to see what was happening at some moments. The shots and sound design were obviously thought out, but I am not sure there is much of a story here. Don't get me wrong, I am not a viewer who needs a firm typical story line or plot, but this seemed like a small scene... This movie was nearly impossible to see. Not sure, but honestly, I would take this down, recompress and start over. read

  It's nice to see a micro budget DV short that attempts a subject as heavy and ambitious as WWII. True, there's little in the way of plot and characterisation. But the film is also thankfully free of any sentimentality or jingoism. It's realistic and downbeat. The way the budget has been stretched to suggest the setting is imaginative. Obviously, the runied barn was already... It's nice to see a micro budget DV short that attempts a subject as heavy and ambitious as WWII. True, there's little in the way of plot and characterisation. But the film is also thankfully free of any sentimentality or jingoism. It's realistic and downbeat. The way the budget has been stretched to suggest the setting is imaginative. Obviously, the runied barn was already there, but the seemingly randomly placed chairs (in other words the detritus of domestic life that suddenly looks surrealy out of place) recalls 'Private Ryan' and the Polish war film 'Kanal'. The use of the sound effect to suggest the plane is another nice touch and works just fine. Overall an impressive effort, especially given the budget. read

  man this was a great short. period. make it longer, you guy can do thie genre bang on - mak it longer, give the edge a history...offer us backstory...the gernade blast at the begginning wasn't there - put it in..nail it...you are so close to perfection thank you S

  I love that fact that you took on the task of doing a period piece. That takes a lot of work. The story is good, maybe a bit to short. The set/location looked authentic. I did notice a little inconsistency with the costumes, in that the camo utilities were not used until much later. During WWII, the uniforms were just olive drab. However, I did not feel that this took anything... I love that fact that you took on the task of doing a period piece. That takes a lot of work. The story is good, maybe a bit to short.   Great camera work. The movements were nice and smooth; you came up with some really good angles and cuts. The film looked great… taking into consideration the compression.
  
  Sound and sound FX were good. Nice work with the airplanes flying overhead. You totally sold the idea that planes were flying by; with out having to actually show footage of the planes. Nice work.
  
  The special FX for the gunshots and explosions were kind of lost with the compression for the web, so it was hard to tell how they looked. But over all, you did a really nice job with this. You should be proud. read

  It's going to be hard to hit the minimum 50 word limit on this on as I was too impressed with it to really find anything to bring up or nitpick at. It felt like I was watching Band of Brothers and all the other Spielbergian era pieces which is a compliment in my book, I love his WWII work. I really hope you get Das Journal off the ground in the near future and get it out there...   You're good, you're really good. What you did with a $180 budget is beyond greatness. I hope that you get the funds you are looking for in order to make your feature. I didn't really like the story of the short itself but what you did behind the camera and the detail of the costumes and the settings were great. The sound was great, the acting was ok. One thing that I would like to comment on was how clean the actor looked, I don't think that he should have looked that clean. These soilders have been without bathing for weeks on end and he just looked like he came out of the Ritz. Just something to think about when you get the money for your next project. Over all it was great, keep up the good work. read
