  Well, it's an imaginative beginning, a flicker of light in the mind of a small time, small town surgeon. But it comes to us like one of the doctor's patients, missing parts, needing parts to be complete. What's the doctor's home life like? What makes his mind turn to mayhem every time he uses his scalpel? His past could be explored, as could his love life. He's certainly... Well, it's an imaginative beginning, a flicker of light in the mind of a small time, small town surgeon. But it comes to us like one of the doctor's patients, missing parts, needing parts to be complete. What's the doctor's home life like? What makes his mind turn to mayhem every time he uses his scalpel? His past could be explored, as could his love life. He's certainly a character worth delving into; his problem, if it becomes one, has potential to flesh out (no pun intended) for a really creepy, scary ride. Well written, however brief. read

  This was awesome! This was like one of those moments where you're observing something happen that you know you shouldn't be watching - something so horrible it makes you cringe, so wrought with putrid possibility it makes you sneer, so sick with this kind of unfathomable inevitability that all you can do is half close your eyes as you read because you know something unapproachable... This was awesome! This was like one of those moments where you're observing something happen that you know you shouldn't be watching - something so horrible it makes you cringe, so wrought with putrid possibility it makes you sneer, so sick with this kind of unfathomable inevitability that all you can do is half close your eyes as you read because you know something unapproachable is about to happen, something you know you won't be able to swallow, but you simply can't take your eyes away from it while you hope that this moment will ultimately have some kind of redeeming factor, some unexpected, hopeful element that will make everything okay, that will make that moment fall away with a big, cleansing sigh... yeah. That's what this was like. Very cool, man. read

  Excuse the pun, but you cut right to the point. After reading no further than the first sentence we know who this narrator is--a man who enjoys slicing up bodies. It's an exciting way to start the story, but between that opening and the final reveal, I wasn't very interested in his internal monologue. There was just nothing surprising about it. Then at the end, when we discover... Excuse the pun, but you cut right to the point. After reading no further than the first sentence we know who this narrator is--a man who enjoys slicing up bodies. It's an exciting way to start the story, but between that opening and the final reveal, I wasn't very interested in his internal monologue. There was just nothing surprising about it. Then at the end, when we discover it's just a surgeon imagining he's a killer, it's like the old "it was all a dream" twist. I just found this to be fairly generic.
  
  I think the story could work, if you made the surgeon's thoughts more bizarre and singular, if you led us through the hall of mirrors in a seemingly twisted mind, only to reveal at the end that he's a respected surgeon. But right now your character isn't even truly twisted, he's just daydreaming that he is, so nothing really sticks with us when it's all over. The character, and the story lack mystery and originality. Give it another go, but make the surgeon like no one else we've ever seen. You mistook the narrator for being similar to Dr. Frankenstein, when really YOU should be creating the monster.

  I really don't know what to make of this story. Not a horror buff, I was queasy reading the details and had to try my hardest to concentrate on the content. It was well written...because I found it difficult to finish! But the ending confused me; I couldn't tell whether he WAS a killer or a doctor. The only clue for me, was the fact that he liked slicing up women! His obvious... I really don't know what to make of this story.

  It was well written...because I found it difficult to finish! But the ending confused me; I couldn't tell whether he WAS a killer or a doctor. The only clue for me, was the fact that he liked slicing up women!
  His obvious interest in the victims eating habits by the state of their organs was mildly amusing to me...I expect a killer would be intruiged by those kind of aspects.
  
  I think a story with that kind of strong theme could only be a few pages long, unless you have a thirst for gore. I mean, where else can you take it? Unless it is an isolated piece from a novel I mean.

  I am not sure the real point of this story. I did notice some typo or spelling errors. This story starts out making the reader think they are inside the mind of a killer. The present tense point of view and all the descriptions. Either I really missed something because the last paragraph explained a surgeon with a nurse. I am not sure what the message of the story is?... I am not sure the real point of this story. I did notice some typo or spelling errors. It seemed to me to read more like an essay.
  I guess I was disappointed tremendously with the ending. There didn’t seemed to be a reason this surgeon would think this way. What was his motive? Did he have a chemical imbalance? Was he a drug user? Did something in his past create his outlook? Not sure the reason for the story? read

  Thie is easy to read but for me it was way out there; I didn't get it. The writng is clear and precise, with the calm voice of a diabolical madman descibing each cut he makes into the flesh of a woman. He speaks of saving the blood (for an unknown purpose) and of collecting body parts. Then he tells the reader that his nurse will clean up, that he enjoys being the surgeon... Thie is easy to read but for me it was way out there; I didn't get it. He speaks of saving the blood (for an unknown purpose) and of collecting body parts. Then he tells the reader that his nurse will clean up, that he enjoys being the surgeon of a small town. Is he a serial killer of just a doc doing his job? Or is he both: a doc, but in his spare time a dismembering, body-part collector? read

  Yeah, you fooled me too. Like most everyone else you set me up to expect Jack the Ripper and ended up in the ER. But along the way, your doctor character might prove crazier than Hannibal Lector -- gathering parts, if I'm reading that right. Don't get out much, but I think this is a fairly original concept. Dealt with a lot of doctors and never saw one who gets off on the... Yeah, you fooled me too. Like most everyone else you set me up to expect Jack the Ripper and ended up in the ER.   Dealt with a lot of doctors and never saw one who gets off on the blood. Anyone with ER or similar exposure normally will tend in the same direction. The problem with a piece like this is trying to cram, if you would, a surgical procedure into three pages. The story is well written and could be stretched into a longer story. Although not my thing, I liked it. read

  Interesting story. It didn't flow as smoothly as I feel it should have but as I said it was interesting. You might use spellcheck a bit more and sometimes that doesn't work mainly because you might have spelled a word unfortunately the wrong word is spelled wrong. Oh never mind I'm not terribly good at this. Check on the first page, the word should read 'barely' it does read... Interesting story.   you might consider giving the reader some more information, like are you talking about a doctor or a killer? So far I've died thrice and I don't think the doctor had a thing to do with it. I have to guess he's a bit different than the rest of us. A love of blood, keeping body parts, and what is he going to do with the parts? My guess would be that he's a harvester. Different but hey everybody has to have something to live for. read

  I'm not sure what to think of this piece, it's not really a short story in the conventional sense, however it is nice glimpse into someone's mind. At first I felt it strange that he would enjoy cutting people up, but not causing them pain -- that of course is when I thought I was reading from the point of view of a serial killer, which is what it says in the log line and is... I'm not sure what to think of this piece, it's not really a short story in the conventional sense, however it is nice glimpse into someone's mind. When you mentioned the nurse, I was confused for a moment. When the character said that he was a surgeon and not a serial killer, I felt ripped off. read

  Interesting little character piece. This is not a story as much as it is an attempt to tease the reader. CONCEPT: A slightly disturbed surgeon dreams of taking his operating table to the next level. I liked what you tried to do. I think with some research and idea toning you could really pull something like this off. At first we think its a serial killer, the we realize it... Interesting little character piece. This is not a story as much as it is an attempt to tease the reader.

  CHARACTERS: Doc was good, on the brink of abusing his power. I'd have liked you to have gotten deeper into his mind. Really make a procedure into something poetic. A dark side to this story is lurking.
  
  DIALOGUE: None
  
  STORY: It wasn't really a story, but, I can see potential for a serious of shorts, where you could deceive the reader into thinking we know what is what, only to reveal a surprise. What other professions you could use I don't know, but it could be fun.
  
  STRUCTURE: Seemed good. It read easy and wasn't interupted by any obvious problems.
  
  OVERALL: I liked it. I did guess the twist as it were. As soon as he examined the intestines, it sounded medical. I think you could build a bigger story around what could be a very interesting character.
  
  An out of town surgeon with ambitions of Dr Frank. I'd love to see him do an op. Only for a patient to find out he's taken more than a tonsil or something, how freaky would that be.
  
  
  Please turn this into something more sinister and dark. The character has great potential.
